Ask Away, Babe
First and foremost SEEK AN EXPERIENCED STYLIST. Extensions need to be installed and removed by an expert. Although the extensions are safe for you hair, damage can absolutely be caused during install or removal.
Tape-in hair is applied to the root of your hair as a "sandwich". A 2-3" piece of extension is stuck to a thin slice of your hair, and another piece of extension is stuck on top, creating an extension sandwich with your hair in the middle. This allows for a "hinge" flexibility with added movement, and grows out smoothly with your natural hair.
Weft hair is applied to the root of your hair in beaded rows. Most babes have 1-2 rows, and the extension is one long piece all the way around your head creating the row. Microbeads are clamped safely onto your hair at the root, from one side to the other roughly 2" apart. The length of weft is then sewn by hand with durable thread onto the beads - not your hair. This method allows for less bulk, a smooth blend, ability to add more weft, and a smooth grow out.
Keratin hair is installed using the "cold fusion" method. Ultrasonic cold fusion is similar to hot fusion but different in one key aspect - it doesn’t use heat. It works because of keratin - a surprisingly common protein. Keratin is found in the form of skin, nails, and hair, and is used to make an adhesive that is then placed in your hair to attach small sections of hair extensions. The keratin used is colour matched to your hair, making it blend incredibly well.
It all depends on your preference! But for a guideline typically tape-ins are moved up after 3-5 weeks, a weft can last anywhere from 8-12 weeks, and keratin extensions typically last 3+ months before needing to be moved up.
This question can vary for every head of hair and greatly depends on your goals! The short answer is: book a consult with one of our highly skilled stylists.
For tape-in hair, the long answer is:
FOR VOLUME ONLY:
Short hair: 1-2 bags
Long hair: 1-3 bags
FOR LENGTH:
Chin length hair: 2-3 bags
Shoulder length hair: 2-3 bags
Mid-back length hair: 2-3 bags
Long hair: 2-4 bags
“Remy” hair is hair in which all the cuticles are running in the same direction from root to tip. All Laux extensions are made using only 100% virgin Remy hair. There are benefits to using Remy hair; it is easier to maintain, less likely to tangle and it blends well with your natural hair.
Yes!! We absolutely offer Laux clip in extensions. They are custom order and come in the same volume as our weft hair sewn onto clips. Send us a message on Instagram to order.
While every head of hair is different (consult!), typically at least 5” of natural hair is required for extensions to be installed and blended.
The answer to this question is sort of a riddle. It depends! Every head of hair is different, and depending on your goals, the method can vary. It’s best to meet with your stylist for a consult to get an appropriate estimate. The cost for just the hair can range from $400-$3000 PLUS installation. Your stylist can help find a solution that meets your budget.
The most efficient way to answer this is by booking a free consult with your preferred stylist. They can assess your expectations, lifestyle, and budget to ensure your extensions are the perfect fit for you. It’s kind of like ordering jeans online… they don’t all fit the same and every person is different!
Wefts are typically left in for a longer period of time, making them “less maintenance”. They are also easier to conceal in a topknot/high pony. They are installed in "rows" horizontally around your head and can be a bit bulky for thin hair babes.
Tape-ins are great for flexibility if you change your hair color frequently, or maybe don’t want them in very often. They also offer a more seamless blend with shorter lengths of natural hair. They can be installed around the face, blending bangs and face framing pieces.
Keratin hair is the most invisible install method and is great for adding both volume and length while looking incredibly natural. It can be installed around the face like tapes, but most people require at least 150 "pieces" of keratin extensions, and you need to be careful when brushing at the root.
Each method has its pro's and con's, and realistically, we find a blend of 2 methods is usually ideal. Most of our customers prefer wefts + tapes or keratins around the face.
